Watchet’s Coastal Community Team, who are working to develop tourism and economic growth in the town, are putting the call out to any interesting stall holders for its monthly Street Fairs.
This is the second year for the Watchet Street Fairs, which will be re-starting in April and will run on the first Sunday of every month until October. They will include live music, exciting street foods from around the world, children’s entertainment from circus skills to instrument making, and a fantastic selection of local traders.
Last year’s inaugural Street Fairs were a huge success, and led to a threefold increase in the number of visitors to the town. The fair committee now hope to build on this great start, and is calling for new stall holders to join them. The fair would particularly welcome applications from local start-ups, craft, vintage, up-cycling and artisan food traders.
Organiser, Molly Quint said, “The Street Fairs are a marvellous celebration of Watchet, and help local people to develop their businesses while bringing more visitors into the town. We’re now looking for more fabulous local traders to join us.”
Watchet Coastal Communities Team, which is the organisation behind the Street Fairs, is made up of local people, businesses and organisations in Watchet and includes Town Council, District Council, Watchet Chamber of Trade, Conservation Society, Market House Museum, West Somerset Railway, Watchet Boat Owners Association and the Onion Collective.
The Fairs are funded by the central government national initiative Coastal Communities, which aims to boost Britain’s coastal towns.
Onion Collective's Georgie Grant said: “The Watchet Street Fairs aim to attract more visitors to Watchet, celebrate local festivities, as well as helping to support start-up businesses in the area. Happily,
we’re already seeing evidence that they are succeeding in these areas.”
Pitches are priced at £20 with gazebo and £15 if you bring your own. Market set-up times will be from 9am – 6pm.
